Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore This
Weekend's Events Friday & Saturday, May 17 & 18
Join in with the Save the Tunes
Council as they perform traditional music associated with spring and the month
of May. Tune up your vocal cords and gather up for a sing-along on May 17, from
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Visitor
Center. On May 18,
from 9:00 am - Noon, help with everything from pulling weeds to planting
heirloom variety seeds. Wear comfortable clothes; work gloves and equipment will
be provided. Insect repellent and sunscreen are recommended. For more

Spaces are still
available for Day Camps and Dunes Discovery Camps. Discover the beaches,
prairies, dunes and woodlands of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore while bog
stomping, bug hunting, night hiking and more. Campers experience native and
historic cultures, play nature games, try their hand at camp crafts, and sing
around the campfire with new friends at summer camp in the national
park. Also, get your hands dirty tomorrow clearing invasive species and
generally getting camp ready for another season of learning and fun. Sturdy

Understanding Color Workshops Saturday, May 18,

Mark VanderVinne is offering an
"Understanding Color Workshop" at the Chesterton Art Center. The workshop is
open to artists of any number of mediums - oils, acrylics, pastels and
watercolors. Mark will guide students on how to see, mix and use color to create
harmony and emotion in their art work. Students will also learn how to
incorporate theories into a piece of artwork. For more information, please see

year's concert marks the 40th year that noted professional musicians have been
asked to perform as guest artists for the event. Tickets are available at the

A 36-Hole Stroke Play event. Flights will be
determined by the first round score. There will be 3 divisions in the men's
group and 2 or 3 divisions in the ladies group, depending on number of entries.
Blue tees for men, green tees for ladies. $75 entry per player, ($35 Brassie
Members): includes cart, warm-up range balls and a free round of golf for later
use. Entry deadline is Tuesday May 14 at Noon. Play will be in threesomes and

Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County presents 'Living with Arthritis' at
Linden House in Hobart (360 West 61st Avenue, Hobart). This informational
program will provide attendees with an increased knowledge of the importance of
recognizing the signs and symptoms of Arthritis and how it affects overall
health. 'Senior Moments' is a monthly lecture series designed for seniors who
take an active role in their own health care. Topics will change monthly. For

honor of May being Stroke Awareness Month, Porter Regional Hospital's Center for
Cardiovascular Medicine will present "Signs and Symptoms of Stroke" at 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, May 28 in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Valparaiso Medical
Center, 2000 Roosevelt Road in Valparaiso. The free presentation
will feature Porter's Stroke Coordinator Nicole Stevens, RN, who will share key
ways to reduce your risk of stroke and how to act FAST when a stroke occurs to
save lives and brain cells.

The Duneland Exchange Club's 10th
annual Frog Hunt will be held at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, in conjunction
with the Porter County Wildlife Management Advisory Board's "A Celebration of
Wildlife." Saturday's Frog hunt activities include a tadpole hunt for
children age 7 and younger and a frog hunt for everyone. Find any one of the 60
"pretend" frogs hidden along the park trails and share in cash prizes valued
from $10 to $500. To participate in the frog hunt, it costs $10 for adults 16
and older and $5 for children 5 and older.

We
will be holding our annual Taste of Care on June 6at the Porter County Expo
center. In the past, we had asked all the attendees to vote for the best chef of
the evening, but this year we want to use "celebrity" judges. Taste of Care started about 5 years ago as a way for
the chefs at the different retirement communities to showcase their talents.
Over the years it has evolved into a tremendous networking event for the
participating facilities and guests. We have around 10 facility participates
this year. Our goal is to have between 20 - 25 judges. Read more about being a

a global media and technology company, today announced that Michelle
Pluskota has been named Vice President of Business Services for Comcast's
Heartland Region, which includes commercial customers in Michigan, Indiana,
Arkansas and Kentucky. In this role, Pluskota is responsible for building
and executing the strategies for Business Services to continue growing
Small-to-Medium Business and Enterprise sales. She also oversees Business
Services marketing, operations and financial performance. Pluskota reports to
Tim Collins, Senior Vice President for Comcast's Heartland
Region.Pluskota earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from
Oregon State University. She and her family currently reside in Northville,
MI.
